I was,at the on-start, skeptical of going to this DMV location ~~ I have only experienced long lines & rude employees (sorry, but true to my experiences). ANYWAY...today, July2024, I drove into the parking lot AND IT WAS ONLY HALF FULL!!! Further on, a nice lady was at the door-(they let u in little by little), and helped me so politely !!! In & out in a flash...& such a brighter experience than my last 40 years of coming to this location!! We had previously gone to Tracy...which is new & beautiful & friendly.

Made our appointments online and we got there early. We had someone check us in right away, we did not have to wait. Every one was nice and super helpful. It was clean and organized. We had a pleasant experience despite dreading going to the DMV in person. I had to go in to get my Real ID before May 2025 and to renew my license, however; I learned that if you try to renew more than 60 days before expiration date, the attempt to renew is considered too "early". I work in schools and it's the summer so I have time now and I did not want to wait until Dec. when things are hectic. But the person at the desk stated that if I renew now, I'd have to take a written test and pay a fee for the Real ID then come back before Feb. pay another fee for renewal. I would have taken the test to save myself the time to come back in Dec/Jan., but my husband convinced me not have to pay twice. So I'll be back in Dec. when it's more busy to see if this review will change!

very 1st time to this DMV office, only to get A California DMV Handbook 2024 in Chinese. At the entrance a lady there to checkin everyone, I walked toward handbook shelves unfortunately, not any Chinese version booklet left so I asked the lady who's very friendly she said to me " sorry I don't have any now I also was too busy not getting chances to get the supply refills" she asked me go to the window 11 & get one from there " ... long story short, after here there I finally got the handbook I needed from lady -Janet, who's professional friendly also very very helpful too. I noticed everyone at this DMV office shows professional, friendly & willing to help, yes, I 100% Recommended this DMV office.

After 9 years of having successfully never come back to this DMV, it finally happened again today when I moved back to the area and had to transfer my out-of-state license and register my out-of-state car. I had 2 appointments (1 for each issue), but the lady at the front desk recommended I go the non-appointment route so I could get both done at the same time. She also advised that I go get my vehicle inspected first before waiting in a longer line later in the day to do so. I appreciated her candor even though I had to wait about an hour to get called up. The staff there was friendly and efficient, from the security guy to the front desk lady to everyone working inside. No, not all of them plastered a fake smile on every time someone walked up, but that's not always indicative of good service. They were genuinely trying to help people as effectively and quickly as possible. And THAT is good service. Since the last time I visited, they completely redid some of the office area (the walls still look dated, but I'm ok with the state spending our tax money on other things). The payment system is completely updated and they use Clover so you can pay via Apple Pay, etc! I'm adding a star from last time, but it's still not 5 stars for me because the virtual testing program for the motorcycle knowledge exam glitched and marked me as failing twice in a row. At the office, they could not remove that from my record. It ended up taking me a total of 3 tries to pass the motorcycle knowledge exam, but due to this issue, for my 3rd try I had to redo my entire application, which probably added 30 mins to the process. To add to my frustrations, when I had called into the DMV customer service line earlier this week, she assured me that a) the motorcycle exam doesn't exist on the virtual testing center (even though I clearly took it once), b) she could not see my motorcycle exam results (even though at the office they could see that I failed twice), and c) even if all I said was true, they could reset the tries at the office when I visited (which was false). Pro tip 1: there are various services that can just be done online. There are other services that can be started online (e.g. driver license application). Save yourself some time and do it online! Pro tip 2: vehicle verifications are done in the back area of the DMV. There's a driver test line and a vehicle verification line. If you're trying to register your car, get that done first before heading into the office. Pro tip 3: REMEMBER ALL YOUR PAPERWORK. AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT! If you can't find a good appointment time here, there's also another Pleasanton DMV in the Stoneridge mall that I might try out next time.
